On Non-Ideal Conditions in Plane Source Diffusion Experiments

It must be emphasized that the agreement around the maximum in the resistivity for Au-Sn, and in­ deed for all noble metal-Sn alloys is purely quali­ tative. The resistivity integrand in Eq. (7) for high noble metal concentrations is dominated almost en­ tirely by the low angle behaviour of the Iij(K) (see Fig. 5), particularly those for Au-Au and Au-Sn for example, and accurate data in this region is ex­ tremely difficult to accumulate. In addition the pseudopotential elements Ut(K) for the noble metals could be questionable because of the presence of the d bands in these metals. With these limitations in mind, however, any quantitative agreement ob­ tained between theoretical and experimental resisti­ vity values could be fortuitous.
